About Beginner Brewer

Beer geekĀ & regular geek

My story

Around 2003, I decided to get serious about brewing beer at home. Inspired by the then-exploding craft beer scene, I bought my first bag of DME, some hops, and was never the same since.

Now, with many homebrews under the belt, experience in starting my own craft brewery, training as a Siebel-accredited sensory analyst, and currently helping new home- and commercial brewers to get started, the art and science of brewing beer is still a fascinating, brain-blasting journey . For some of my other projects, check out my regular column on homebrewing in On Tap magazine, SA’s only craft beer and homebrewing quarterly.

The Beginner Brewer has been around through all of that, and along with our podcast: Scum, Beer & Villainy, represents a safe haven, a friendly (if somewhat weird) cantina for the wayward beer geek to visit, take a load off, and maybe share some laughs. And a few cold ones, of course.

I hope you enjoy every article, podcast, and review as much as we’ve loved creating them! Cheers.
